Why is Saving Money Hard?
There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to save money. Many people do not have a budget and therefore are spending money with no awareness. Often you are spending money on items you do not really need. If saving money is important to you, you have to make it your top priority.

No Strong Financial Understanding
This may sound strange, but you may not know how to save money. Face it, many of us are not taught the best way to handle finances. Finances are something that needs to be taught and learned. You do not wake up one day with a clear understanding of finances. You probably need to educate yourself a little more and do some research about how to save money.
One item that I would recommend, and I will mention this again later, is having multiple savings accounts. You want to save for your future and retirement. That should be one account. Then you want general savings, and that should be another account.
You also want to save for emergencies and any large purchases you wish to make. It may seem strange to have separate accounts for all of these, but it is incredibly helpful as you are trying to save money.
You Do Not Have a Budget
A budget is a critical way for you to understand your money. Without a budget, there is no way to begin saving money. A budget helps you track the money you have coming in and the money you have going out. A budget is the first time you can get a good look at how you are spending money. When you spend money without a budget, you do not know where your money is going. When you first write down all the places you spend money in a month, it is eye opening.
What you may think of as just a few dollars a day coffee adds up over the course of a month. All that is money that you can save. If you want to make saving money a priority, you need to start with a budget.Â

Lack of Preparedness
Unexpected expenses happen when you seem to be the least prepared for them. When they happen, these expenses often drain the life out of any savings that you have. The less you have saved means, the more draining it will be. If you change your mind set to begin expecting these types of expenses, you can be ready for them.
If you have money set aside for the unknown, you no longer find yourself losing all your savings anytime something comes up that you did not plan. There is always going to be something that you do not plan. You can create a savings account that is just for emergencies. If you have that always available and it is specifically for those expenses, you will not have to tap into your other savings.Â
Too Much Debt
When you have too much debt, it is hard to concentrate on savings. It is even worse when that debt is from credit cards. Credit cards can get out of control quickly, and it is difficult to get them under control. They also suck any money you have away from you. One of the bad things about credit cards is they tend to pull you into a cycle that you are not able to get yourself out of.
If you cannot afford to pay more than the minimum payment, you will never be able to pay down your credit card debt and get to saving money.
You should use credit cards carefully. If you cannot pay off your credit cards each month or come close to paying them off each month, you should consider not using them. Keep in mind that any money you put towards your credit card is money that does not go into your savings account. Â
Too Much Time Eating Out
One of the fastest ways to blow your budget is by eating out. If you eat out often, you probably should reduce the number of times you eat out. Yes, you need to eat, but I am willing to bet you can do it cheaper than you are. You should look at eating out as a treat, not an everyday occurrence. You must create a food budget for yourself.
You can use one budget for groceries and eating out. Or you can determine the number for food and split it between eating out and groceries. You will find that you can get more food for your dollar if you buy groceries from the store instead of eating out.Â
These may seem like steps you do not want to take, but if you start making some of these changes, you will find that you are better able to save money. Once you see your savings account growing, you are more likely to take more steps to save more money.
